Uneasy About ACE

Friday 8 April 2011

I will start by disclosing that I am not a fan of Harry Shearer’s radio show. It comes off to me as too dry and humorless, like The Daily Show but without the punch lines.

That said, I think The Big Uneasy should be mandatory viewing for all members of Congress, the President, and any other organization able to exert any control over the Army Corps of Engineers. The case presented against the Corps is thorough and credible, and effectively calls into question every levee system erected by the Corps in the last 50 years. It’s not a powerful, smack-you-across-the-face film; the drama is minimized, and the message seeps in and undermines the Corps like the sand under New Orleans’ levees. The message is powerful and unrelenting, like the Mississippi.

Recommended, but wait until it starts at the Varsity on the 15th to save a slot during the Festival. 4 out of 5.
