Backing Ourselves Off

Sunday 15 April 2012

We’re done for the night, after the quite good Holy Rollers. None of the characters were particularly sympathetic–narcissistic is probably correct–but they were interesting. While I understood their point of view (casinos are inherently bad, legally taking money from them is Good), I can’t say I shed a tear when they started to fall apart towards the end. The confession by Ben at the end about his future prospects, or lack thereof, was telling and hearkened back to the comments of one of the player’s fathers. They sort of reminded me of high school sports stars who ignore college (or at least getting a bankable degree) and then wind up teaching high school sports after their attempt at a professional career fades.

Long day, good day, another set of films tomorrow.
